Came ready to go right out of the box. The squirrels quickly learned they don't like it. It's too tall for them to reach anything from the top and even stretching to the feeder with top paws on the feeder gives them a little twirl. When the feeder spins, it does have a slight low rumble, which the squirrels don't like. The birds quickly adapted to the new feeder and sprinkle enough seeds to the ground that the squirrels aren't left without anything. We have had the feeder up for approx 2 weeks and have had no issue with it.
